If you are seeking the truth or are new in the faith, you must be on your guard. The evil one doesn’t want you to walk in the truth. He will do all that he can to hinder you. Read this parable from Jesus to get a better picture:
While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
His disciples asked him what this parable meant. He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,
“‘though seeing, they may not see;
though hearing, they may not understand.’
“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
Luke 8:4-15
Expect it to Come
Do not think that the spiritual world and the attacks from the evil one are not real. If you ignore the warnings you are already deceived. At the same time, do not fear. While the devil and demons are real and they do want to take the word from your hearts God is very clear when he tells us not to fear. God is on our side and we can trust him to care for us, but we must humble ourselves and ask for his help.
Prepare Yourself by Putting on the Armor of God
God has given us armor to put on to protect us on the spiritual battlefield. God also gives us his word of truth as our sword in the spiritual battle. When the evil one sows doubt and lie, you must repel them and rely on what is true in the word of God. Memorize the passage below and apply it to your life daily, not in fear but in confidence.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Ephesians 6:10-18
Gather with Others
Spiritual warfare is difficult and it is dangerous, don’t fight alone. Satan wants you to battle with him alone. He will attack you from the right, the left, from behind. He will not be fair and he will attack you in ways you don’t expect. Brothers and sisters in Christ are willing and eager to help you through this. Join with other believers in prayer. Share with them your struggles with faith and any attacks you may feel. Believers are not going to judge or shame you, they are there to pray and encourage you through this. They want to help you in growing in your faith. Join with Christians as often as you can, especially in the beginning when Satan is trying to steal the word from your heart.
